Special Interest Programs - For Incoming Freshmen
The Honors Program
- The Honors Program is an interdisciplinary program within general education that provides talented students with an academically-enriched environment.
- Eligibility requirements:
- Incoming students must have a 3.5 or higher high school GPA and a minimum ACT score of 24.
- Transfer Students must have an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher in prior course work. Freshmen are placed in two honors courses in each of their first two semesters.
- Benefits of the Honors Program: Completing the program enhances resume and makes students a more attractive candidate for Graduate programs and employment; at the chair’s discretion, students may have priority registration as long as they are actively involved in the Honors Program; there are no course load restrictions; and with instructor approval and chair approval, Honors students may take graduate courses as Seniors.
University Foundation Scholars Program
- This is a competitive scholarship program. Eligibility requirements are: a 3.5 or higher high school GPA and a minimum of 24 on the ACT, along with extracurricular activities.
- Benefits of the program are:
- Foundation scholars are able to register before any other undergraduates at the University
- tuition covered for the four special general education courses and two seminars of interdisciplinary study which apply to your graduation credits (Foundation Scholar students can count their Honors classes as Foundation Scholars classes)
- special extracurricular activities
- A stipend of up to $1,500 to be applied toward a study abroad experience, a research project or thesis;
Living Leadership Program
- Living Leadership is a residential living experience in which freshmen students reside together. It is made up of students committed to leadership involvement at SVSU and those who are committed to furthering their own leadership skills. Students must participate in many activities including a Leadership Kick start camp prior to school starting, as well as attendance at fun and engaging student life events.
- Eligibility requirements:
- 2.5 or higher high school GPA and submitting application materials. Members of the program must live on campus. The program is facilitated by Residential Life.
