SVSU's housing has been voted Best Dorms in the state of Michigan, and 19th nationally in a survey by Niche (2015.) The survey polled 60,000 students from 903 colleges and universities. The rating is based on student satisfaction, housing costs, capacity, and crime rates.
On Campus Housing Options
Students are able to put a preference of where they would like to live for their first year on campus. Students rank the different housing options, which housing operations will take into account as rooms are assigned.
All housing units have private bathrooms, room controlled heating and air conditioning, wifi, basic cable, bed, desk, and kitchen areas with a microwave, stove top cook area, and refrigerator.

Roommates
Students are also able to chose roommates. Individuals who would like to live together simply place each other's names on the housing contract, housing again will try to honor these. For students who do not have a roommate picked out, a roommate will be assigned. Each student will fill out a life-style box which asks questions such as their sleeping schedule, cleanliness level, and lifestyle habits.
SVSU does not have separate athlete housing. However, often times students who are athletes are housed together.
Students in a living community (Cardinal Business Edge, First Year Residential Experience, Foundation Scholars, Cardinals in Action, Honors Program, FIRE, or other program) will also be housed together
